Truth is found not just in a series of religious statements but within the full-blooded adventure of life itself.
This man who is Truth and Way also calls himself âthe Life.â In other words, the Truth is found not just in a series of religious statements but within the full-blooded adventure of life itself. The religious romantic experiences this full-blooded truth as a quest, as a life of encounter and a life of conflict, for to find the treasure of truth he must battle with pirates. He must go on a long voyage, wade through deep swamps, and cross the seas where the maps all say, âHere there be dragons.â
This adventure is not for the fainthearted. It is not for those who know it all. It is not for those who seek a comfort zone. It is not for those who wish to take their ease in either a religious dogma or a relativistic dogma. It is a quest for the Reepicheeps, the Cyranos, the chevaliers and knights of the spirit. The religious romantic believes such a quest is possible, and the way he goes on this quest is through the practice of his religion. This is the way he sets off with a band of pirates and traitors to sail the high seas in search of the treasure of truth, and like every true adventurer, the religious romantic realizes that the journey is full of danger, dark and deep. If he would find the buried treasure, he must be prepared to dig, and that digging will take him down into the underworldâinto the dark caverns of the mind where the deep, cold lakes are home to unimaginable monsters, and where the grim horrors of truth must be confronted.
